Frequently Asked Questions | Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team
Who is this program for?
This program is designed especially for intact teams and work groups. We recommend this for teams who have been together a minimum of six to eight weeks and have not recently experienced and are not expecting significant change.
What does this program do?
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team is a proven way to help teams succeed. The program helps teams understand how, as a team, they score on the key components of The Five Behaviors model: trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results. Each individual will also understand their own DiSC behavior style, and how their style contributes to the team’s overall success.
Do we have time to run this program?
In today’s busy climate you are right to be conscious of the amount of time it takes to run a team through the complete Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team training. Some teams might schedule sessions to run over a year. Some will finish in a few weeks. But it’s definitely worth the investment of time. We believe the program is most effective if it is implemented over a period of time so that the concepts can be digested and reflected upon. We recommend planning this in 3 days over a 6 week period or 6 half day sessions over 12 weeks. Having time in between modules allows teams to reflect back on the previous work, focus on 1-2 behaviors at a time and make positive, sustainable progress. If you are looking for something quick often just running through the Trust section will pay off in the short term.
Should all team members read The Five Dysfunctions of a Team before taking this assessment?
This is not necessary but can be highly recommended. We do however recommend that the facilitator read the book. The book is highly respected and easy to read.
Do I need to attend a Five Behaviors certification program?
No, a certification is not required to administer this program. Everything that you need to know to administer a successful program is included in the facilitation kit.
Can I act as a facilitator for my own team?
We recommend that an outside facilitator conduct the workshops. Bringing in someone outside your group will make it much easier for you to participant as a member of your team. The discussions will be much more comfortable with an objective party to facilitate them.
What trainer/facilitator resources are available?
We recommend that you purchase the Five Behaviors facilitation kit, which has everything you need to administer a successful workshop: a leader's guide you can follow, the official (and highly customizable) slide deck, video segments to accompany each module, handouts and suggested exercises, brochures, research documentation, explanatory podcasts from the director of R&D, and more.
When preparing for the workshop, be sure to reference the annotated team report, which is an expanded version of the team profile. The annotated team report includes the following supplementary material: a more in-depth explanation of the profile content, scoring interpretations, indicators of personalized content, key discussion points on each page, and resources for additional information.
How many members need to complete The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team assessment before a report can be created?
A minimum of three participants are needed before you can deliver this assessment. That’s also the same number needed before you can generate a report. We do not suggest running a report until all team members have completed the assessment.
